How far along am I?
If you have recently discovered that you are pregnant, you are probably wondering how many weeks pregnant you are. There are two ways to answer this question.
One way to date pregnancy is by counting back to the first day of your last menstrual period (LMP). This is referred to as “Gestational Age,” the term most used by medical providers to date pregnancies. Even if you can remember the calendar details of your last period, we suggest confirming your calculations by making an ultrasound appointment with Care Net as described below.
You may also hear the term “Fertilization Age.” This refers to how long it has been since conception, the fertilization of the egg by the sperm. Most women release a ripe egg (ovulate) in the middle of their monthly cycle (or approximately 2 weeks before their next period begins). For example, if the Fertilization Age is 4 weeks, the Gestational Age would be 6 weeks.
