“Nicole” walked into Care Net for a pregnancy test appointment with her boyfriend “Sam.” Many times, the father of the baby will come to our center and sit in the lobby, just as scared as their partners. That is why we do everything we can to include them in the decision-making process while ensuring the safety of the women.
Nicole cried when she saw the positive test results, and Sam reached out to hold her hand. When asked how he felt, Sam explained he was nervous, but excited. He stated, “I don’t have a dad in my life, but I want to be a good dad for this baby.”
We scheduled Nicole for an ultrasound and informed them both of our parenting program. They weren’t sure what they would do with the pregnancy and needed some time to think about it. After meeting their unborn child through a life-changing ultrasound, they decided they would continue the pregnancy with the support of our parenting classes.
Their journey felt exciting, but also frightening, especially for Sam. He shared how he came from a hard background. His mom had died a few years ago, and his dad had never been a part of his life. Sam lacked a model of what it looks like to be a parent and, through God’s grace, we have been honored to model proper parenting for him.
Each week, Sam and Nicole feel more prepared to embark on the adventure of parenting, and we can’t wait to enter into this new adventure with them.
