   DAY 1  Conception

When conception occurs, the baby’s features, including sex, hair and eye color, are determined.

WEEK 3  3 weeks from conception / 5 weeks from the last menstrual period (LMP)*

By just 21 days after conception, the baby’s heart is beating and the brain, spinal cord and other organs have begun to form.     *Questions about “from conception” vs. “from the LMP”?

WEEK 6  6 weeks from conception / 8 weeks from the LMP

The baby has fingers and has begun to move, although the mother cannot yet feel the fetus’ movements.

 

 

 

 

 

WEEK 8  8 weeks from conception / 10 weeks from the LMP

The fetus’ eyelids begin to close to to protect his or her developing eyes.

 

 

 

 

 

WEEK 10  10 weeks from conception / 12 weeks from the LMP

   .Fingernails and toenails start to develop.

 

WEEK 12  12 weeks from conception / 14 weeks from the LMP

The baby might be almost 3 1/2 inches (87 millimeters) long from crown to rump and weigh about 1 1/2 ounces (45 grams).

 

WEEK 16  16 weeks from conception / 18 weeks from the LMP

    The baby’s ears begin to stand out on the sides of the head, and he or she might
begin to hear.

WEEK 18  18 weeks from conception / 20 weeks from the LMP

This week is considered the half-way point of the pregnancy. The baby’s movements may begin to be felt by the mother.
